E-mail was adapted for ARPANET by Ray Tomlinson of BBN in 1972. He picked the @ symbol from the available symbols on his teletype to link the username and address.

I just found and started a free trial of SPAMfighter for my Outlook 2007 Client which I use to download my email from several accounts. They have already 5 million users. Users can report Spam and if several users report the same email as spam, SPAMfighter adds that to their database to keep other users from ever seeing such Spam that might be sent to them.

The download and installtion was simple and quick.

It added a toolbar to my Outlook which allows me to mark email as Spam or to check the email in my SPAMfighter folder (which it created automatically during install) and if I find one that I want to receive I click on the email to Select it and then just click the Unblock button on the SPAMfighter toolbar.

It can also clean the Spam out of a folder. I used it to clean one of my email account folders containing 400+ emails. It found about 320 of them to be Spam and moved them into the SPAMfighter folder which I then permanently deleted. Only took a couple of minutes for it to perform this task.

You can select any email in your InBox and from the SPAMfighter toolbar choose to Blacklist or Whitelist the sender or the senders entire Domain.
